Project Summary

The project is part of ACS Green Campus Roadmap to reduce the school’s carbon footprint by 20% by 2020.

This project contributes to:

  • Producing clean energy and generating savings on the total energy bill of both EDL and generators. Savings are estimated to be 60,000 USD per year on the total energy bill, rounding up to 1.2 million in 20 years. The solar panels’ lifetime is expected to last upwards of 25 years. Along with the savings acquired from installing the solar panels, our students are educated on the impact of renewable energy. This further expands the faculty’s educational strategies and teaching tools.
  • Reinjecting excess clean energy, acquired during the summer period and on weekends, back into the national grid via net metering. This helps reduce the EDL bill even further and reintroduces free energy into the grid (which helps the community at large).
  • Avoiding yearly carbon emissions of around 325 tons (over 8,000 tons over 25 years).
  • Installing shading on the roofs, which lower the temperature of the last floor and decrease the need for the HVAC system.
  • Increasing the usable recreational space for the students on the 5th floor patio in the BD Building, as well as the Elementary Roof Playground in the Lower School Building.
  • Hiding the technical area with aesthetic canopies, which provide suitable shading and cooling.
