Why Work at ACS Beirut

Located in Ras Beirut, or Hamra, we are next to the American University of Beirut, the country’s and region’s top university and hospital system. The neighborhood is full of restaurants, services, cafes, fresh local foods, mosques and churches, and is vibrant and exciting. We are a mile walk or a 10 minute taxi ride to downtown with its world class shopping and designers, and a few minutes further to other historic, cultural and fun neighborhoods like Ashrafieh and Mar Mikahil where pedestrian streets are flavored with French culture and bistros and music venues. ACS is located next to the Mediterranean Sea in the cosmopolitan city of Beirut where Arabic is the official language but English is spoken widely, as well as French.

ACS is 15 minutes from the Rafik Hariri International Airport and we are located so that flights to the Gulf, Asia and Europe and more exotic places are quite easy and often very affordable.

Lebanon is a lovely country replete with mountains, fertile growing areas, picturesque villages, ancient wine growing regions, lovely seasons that includes snow and skiing, and unparalleled ancient history – after all, the Phoenicians began here, followed by the Romans, Egyptian, Ottomans, Crusaders …

Why ACS

A special kind individual chooses international teaching. Excellent educational credentials, experience, and as well as love of children are essential in choosing teachers for ACS. In addition, we seek educators with perfect English to support school-wide literacy. One needs to be able to communicate both in writing and speech with confidence in English language. We are an English speaking school and English is inserted into every part of the curriculum. A successful teacher here is flexible, cooperative, innovative and ready for change. ACS uses both American curriculum based on the US Dept. of State AERO Standards and international curriculum that culminates for some in an American, IB Diploma or Lebanese Baccalaureate.

ACS is a PreK-12, non-profit and has endured in its educational mission and goal of excellence in education for 110 years. We begin in Early Years, inspired by the acclaimed Reggio Emilia curriculum, to Grade 12 with a wide range of sport and co-curricular programs.

Our professional learning vision means that every member of the ACS community is engaged in ongoing learning and professional growth for improved student learning.
