Over 400 people attended the Mini-NESA Conference held at ACS on Friday November 9th. Faculty and Staff from ACS as well as 60 visiting faculty from all over Lebanon, gathered on the ACS campus for a full day of educational workshops and poster presentations.

The ACS Mini-NESA Conference is an annual professional development and networking event for educators organized by the American Community School Beirut to share expertise and knowledge about student learning and teaching.

This year’s theme, Transforming the Day, explored innovative practices for transforming young lives through transformational instructional strategies and technology to enhance learning. The keynote speaker, Mr. Mouhamad Rabah, General Manager of ZRE and one of the leading founders of Beirut Digital District started the morning talking about innovation and its impact in education.

The full day conference had over 24 different workshops for attendees to choose from in a wide variety of topics, all representing best practice in education. Topics ranged from child-led and child-centric education to engineering and entrepreneurship in the classroom, strategies for connecting art to education, alternative approaches to teach Arabic through modern literary work, even approaching math by fostering the understanding of numerical relationships with the development of a child’s mathematical reasoning, rather than just “teaching them the rules”.

Between workshops, attendees were invited to visit the gym, where 32 poster presentations were designed as mini-sessions, allowing each attendee to wander between booths and listen to or see a short 10 minute presentation. The poster presenters included ACS faculty as well as students, alumni and local organizations that support students or education.

ACS will submit 4 presentations to NESA who will then decide among all the entrants those who will be invited to present their workshop at the NESA Spring Educators Workshop March 29-31, 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand.

NESA stands for the Near East South Asia Council of Overseas Schools. This council provides professional development opportunities for educators, teachers, administrators, and staff members. ACS Beirut is a member of this association.
