ACS Beirut Seniors - Let your Light Shine
Posted 24/01/2018 03:50PM

The path was illuminated with light bulbs to the lower school auditorium on a cool evening to celebrate the upcoming graduation of the seniors. The lights not only showed the students and families where to go, but reminded the seniors to ‘Let your light shine’ wherever their path in life takes them.

Inside, the auditorium was transformed into a sky of graduation caps, tables were adorned with graduation signs, diplomas were on the walls and the atmosphere was charged with excitement. Students Alma Saddi, Micah Iriola, Dana Bekdash, Lynn El Hadj Ali and Samer Marrouche performed during the night, playing music and songs that had special meaning to them and their classmates. Senior student speakers Luke Armstrong, Fatima Makki and Rani Kantari each reminisced about their time at ACS, their classmates and the faculty and staff.

The Class of 2018 selected faculty member Nick Lewis, High School Social Studies Teacher to speak at the event. He honored the students for all that they have done and are working towards, encouraging them to go forward with great inspiration and do great things in the world.

Every year the most anticipated moment is the senior slideshow. Photos of the students as babies or children and over the years at ACS brought many memories and a realization that their time at ACS is coming to an end. This year there was a second video shown made by the class gift committee. It was a comedy about needing a place to sit outside and raising money for the class gift - an outdoor student area on the roof of the BD building to be called the “Class of 2018 Terrace.”

The event itself is organized by the Development and Alumni Relations Office, with the assistance of the Senior Class Parent Volunteer Committee: Maria Abunnasar, Carma Barakat, Chirine Haykel, Majdoleen Hijazi, and Nada Marrouche. After the videos and performances, students cut the class cake, wrote thank you notes to their teachers and signed the t-shirts. The photo booth was the most popular spot for a quick group shot of friends, families and parent too.

Please contact one of the Senior Parent Committee members or one of the following Senior Class Gift Committee members: Jana Abou Ayash, Dana Bekdash, Nizar Salam or Ghazi Saoud if you would like to donate to the Class of 2018 gift.
