As the lights went out and the familiar space scenes and stars came on the screen, the audience members settled down for the latest Star Wars movie, ‘The Last Jedi.’  There were over 250 people who attended the special screening of the move. It was organized by the Parent Ambassadors of the D&A Office as a family event/fundraiser and it was a great evening out for everyone.

Some of the attendees wore their Star Wars costumes or clothing. There were a few masks and even some lightsabers. The crowd was welcomed by Kylo Ren, also known as Head of School Greg MacGilpin, who had been seen on campus and on Instagram in his costume the week before the movie was shown. In the theatre, he did not wear a costume but welcomed everyone and asked them to use the force and find special prize envelopes hidden under 3 seats. For everyone who attended, they were offered a Star Wars toy and free popcorn.

During the movie, there were lots of nail biting scenes, moments of laughter and cheers from the audience. After the movie people could be heard discussing the plot and the prior films in the franchise. Many noted that it was good to see some of the old Star Wars characters like Chewbacca and Yoda, there was even some speculation that this was not the ‘last’ film. Almost everyone agreed that the cutest thing in the movie was the little birds. As almost all attendees used ‘the force’ to stay awake to get home, surely many students were dreaming of stars and distant planets that night.
