Recently the ACS Nurses, Nada Halawi and Nadine Mattar, and guest speaker Dr. Mona Osman El Hage educated our parents and students about the importance of cardiac screening among young students. Dr. Osman El Hage is the Founder of the Champs Fund, an organization dedicated to screening students for cardiac conditions. It was launched in April 2014 after the loss of a young athlete during a soccer game in one of Beirut’s international schools due to a cardiac condition undetected by routine medical exam.

Students were reminded that a pre-participation exam is required for all ACS students who participate in PE / Athletic activities or competitive sports. ACS offers a free screening at school for all of its students that includes a doctor’s assessment, blood pressure, heart rate, vital signs check, and an electrocardiogram (EKG). Over 400 students were screened and given a clean bill of health.
