The ACS Phoenician Chapter of the National Honor Society held it’s annual Induction Ceremony May 23rd.

Students in 9th and 10th who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher are invited to an information session about the NHS earlier in the year. Those who want to be considered for membership must then complete and online form, write a reflection and get at least one teacher recommendation. The faculty advisor is Ms. Suheir Sleiman.

Current NHS President Laya Tabbal opened the evening with a speech and presentation of the 2016-17 accomplishments.  Accomplishments fall under one of 4 ‘Pillars’ of strength. Layla spoke about the pillar of Character. Vice-President Daniel Harrich explained what Leadership was in the NHS. Lynn Wahab, Treasurer, highlighted the pillar of Service and Secretary Madi Al Majd Yasine spoke of Scholarship.

HS History and TOK teacher, Mr. Greg Nazarian, was selected by the NHS students to give the Keynote speech. He spoke of honor and what honor means in different societies and at different times in history.

Following his thought provoking speech, students performed 3 different music numbers. The Jazzin’ Five: Daniel Harrich, Esfandiar Rouhani, Suhail Shehab, Luke Armstrong and Micah Iriola played Sweet Caroline - composed by Neil Diamond.
