The tassels moved on the graduation caps and it was over, the High School Seniors were now official graduates of ACS, the Class of 2017.
They graduated in the presence of Prime Minister Saad Al Hariri, the US Ambassador Elizabeth H. Richard, Kuwaiti Ambassador Abdulal Al Qenaei, German Ambassador Martin Huth, and UN Special Coordinator of Lebanon Sigrid Kaag, ACS Trustees, faculty members, their family and friends.
Head of School Greg L. MacGilpin, Jr., gave the ‘Welcome’ speech and Mrs. Salwa Siniori Baasiri, Vice President of the Board of Trustees was responsible for the ‘Greeting’ on behalf of the BOT.
Keynote speaker Her Excellency Elizabeth H. Richard spoke to the students of their journey and their future. She then presented the President’s Award for Educational Excellence to 28 students after reading a congratulatory note from President Trump.
Dr. Rob Allison, High School Principal presented the following awards:
- The Farah Family Athletic and Leadership Award was presented to Adam Zabadne with the assistance of Zalfa Farah ’09.
- The Blair Harcourt Award was given to Rayana Azar.
- The Fine Arts Award went to Leen Harazallah.
- The Citizenship Award to Sima Bu Jawdeh.
- The Walter Prosser Award to Layla Tabbal.
Classmate Gabrielle Cherfane was the Class Speaker highlighting the ACS experience and encouraging students to fly from their ACS platform. The musical ensemble, comprised of about 20 students and 1 teacher, led by Music Director Mr. Jeffrey Wenz, performed ‘Exaltation’ before the Presentation of the Class of 2017.
As Mrs. Nadine Bou Rached Hage, Grade 12 Coordinator, read the 72 names, there were cheer and shouts as students received their diplomas from Mr. MacGilpin after shaking the hands of Dr. Allison and Mrs. Baasiri. Once they were seated, Dr. Allison asked them to turn their tassels and proceed with the festivities. Students filed out of the Assembly Hall on their way to St. George’s for a celebratory dinner with a slide show, cake and music.
