Welcome to the Early Childhood Division
Welcome to the Early Childhood Division Homepage. I invite you to browse the description of the ACS Early Childhood Program provided on our site and to contact me for further information about our division.
The Early Childhood Division at ACS which originally comprised Nursery, KG1, and KG2, has been recently expanded to include first and second grade. Aligning the pedagogy and approach across the five grade levels has been started and will continue in the years to come.
Our Early Childhood Division has been inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy since 2003. This philosophy is not a set program or curriculum; it is a mindset, a way of thinking and being. It is an approach that is constructivist, progressivist, and humanist in nature.
In addition to embracing the Reggio Emilia philosophy, the Early Childhood Program is part of a Nursery-Grade 12 school that follows the AERO standards (American Education Reaches Out). These AERO standards start in KG2 and are meshed with the Reggio philosophy so that the learning continues to be joyful and child-centered. “Nothing without Joy”, a quote by Loris Malaguzzi (the founder of the Reggio Emilia Philosophy), is our vision in Early Childhood. We believe that learning should be a joyful experience for every child and adult. We also believe in the hundred languages of children; the language of art, music, dance, construction, math, writing … through which children express themselves and make their learning visible.
As all areas of development are interrelated and important, we address them equally to foster the development of the whole child. The 21st century skills and learning dispositions are embedded in all aspects of our program.
We invite you to join us on this journey. Together, through dialogue and collaboration, we will ensure a joyful learning experience for everyone.
