Dear ACS Community,
Last Friday, I returned from a trip to various cities in the United States where we were recruiting teachers for next year. I interviewed a number of excellent candidates for the handful of open positions we have at ACS, and a few candidates were quite interested in our school and Beirut. Unfortunately, the current political situation has made most people anxious about such a move, so we've only been able to fill a couple of positions, but we are so pleased with the candidates who said yes. The recruiting season is not over yet, so we are still hopeful.
Currently, we are in the process of bringing three very strong finalists to campus for the Middle School Principal position. Candidates visit for the entire day and meet with representatives of our various constituencies: students, Parents' Committee, school leadership, and faculty. One candidate visited earlier this week; the two other candidates will be interviewing next week. We hope to announce the next Middle School Principal before the end of this month.
While we attended recruiting fairs, we hosted alumni gathering in cities where we have large concentrations of ACS alumni: London, Boston, Seattle, and San Francisco. Each event was well attended with a very nice combination of older and more recent alumni. Regardless of when they graduated, however, they all clearly have a special place in their hearts for ACS and very fond memories of the time they spent here. It was especially nice to see so many of our very recent alums, who are currently university students, at the events. All expressed their appreciation of our efforts to connect them to each other and to keep them engaged with and informed about what is happening at ACS.
Finally, I wanted to offer a quick word about next year's tuition and ancillary fees. I covered the new ancillary fees in my last letter, and I wanted to let you know that our plan is for the lira portion of tuition to remain the same as it is this year--there won't be an increase. The government has been somewhat unpredictable in some of the requirements that have been sprung on employers, often retroactively, but our hope is that these will not be so significant as to require an increase in the lira tuition.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
