Dear ACS Families,
Today marks the last day of what has been an eventful and very enjoyable school year. Over the past couple of weeks, we celebrated our seniors' commencement and our 8th graders' and 5th graders' promotion ceremonies. Congratulations to these students on achieving these educational milestones and to all our students for their growth and development this year. Although the year wasn't without its challenges, I couldn't be happier with where we are now as a school and where we are heading. I would like to express my gratitude to all our families for their support and patience throughout the year and to our faculty and staff for their continued efforts to make the ACS experience better for all students.
As we head into the summer break, we, of course, will be reflecting on the school year and what things we as a school can do better. Last night some members of the ACS administration had a productive final meeting with our Parents' Committee, a group of very committed people who care deeply about ACS and our community. The Parents' Committee has done an excellent job of bringing issues that are on parents' mind to our attention, and they've also been very supportive and incredibly helpful in advancing some of our important initiatives. Moreover, they have spent countless hours volunteering to help with special events across our four divisions. I will be writing more about the role of the Parents' Committee as we get closer to the start of the year. I am grateful for their candor and their positive approach. It has been a pleasure to work with such a group.
We've made good progress in a number of very important areas, and we will continue to tighten some things up on the academic side as well as on the social/emotional/behavioral side. Our goal is to articulate clearly our philosophies and policies at all divisions. We are committed to transparency in all aspects of the administration of the school. We owe this to all of you.
I would like to wish all of you an enjoyable, restful summer. Parents, spend as much meaningful time as you can with your children over the summer. They need you, and these interactions are so impactful. As a father with children who are grown and out of the nest, I can say that it is truly shocking how quickly the childhood years go by. Savor them!
One quick note before I close: We have made one calendar change regarding the schedule of the March break. Previously, we had two very long weekends with two school days in the middle; we decided to connect those weekends, as we know many people would like to or will be planning to travel.
See you on August 30th!
Sincerely,
