Dear ACS Families, It's back—theater at ACS! This week our theater teachers and students launched "Young Thespians Week," a celebration of the dramatic arts that featured mimes, puppetry, clowns, acting and other workshops, a screening and conversation with filmmaker Zeina Dacchache, and two student theatrical productions. Our high schoolers performed Heir to a Misfortune, a wonderful farcical short play that kept the audience laughing. Our middle schoolers performed Final Dress Rehearsal, a zany take on everything that can possibly go wrong in a final dress rehearsal before opening night. Kudos to all the actors, technicians, and set designers who made everything possible. Special thanks to our amazing drama teachers, Janine Bezuidenhout in the high school and Riwa Kharrat in the middle school. Janine and Riwa are teachers who inspire students to take risks and to challenge themselves. Equally important, the students who participated in the productions were clearly enjoying themselves, which is also a credit to Janine and Riwa. Thanks as well to Joanne Saad, who was not only instrumental in planning "Young Thespians Week," but who has also worked so hard to improve the entire arts program at ACS. The arts are such an important component of the ACS mission, and we will continue to improve all arts programs and performances in the coming years. Sincerely, |
