Dear ACS Families,
This morning, Middle and High School students attended our annual Convocation ceremony. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this event, Convocation is quite simply a "coming together" of our community to honor and celebrate the commencement of a new school year.
Before starting the ceremony, I presented the ACS class of 2023—our seniors—to the audience, and they processed into the gym with recognition from the faculty and student body. It was very nice to see the entire gym—floor and bleachers—filled with students and faculty, the first time we have done this in three years!
High School Principal, Joe Campana; Middle School Principal, Mary Noble; and National Honor Society President, Karim Zantout gave remarks that focused on the unique and important aspects of the ACS educational experience. I also spoke, emphasizing the responsibility all of us have in making the ACS school community the supportive, safe, friendly environment that helps students flourish and realize their full potential.
Our neighbors across the street, International College, started their school year yesterday. This exacerbates the traffic issue on the streets around our campus, especially at the beginning of the year when students and families are getting used to new routines. We are reviewing drop off and pick up procedures to see if there are any modifications we can make that would improve the process for our families. Please know that, when we consider these procedures, the safety of our students is our priority.
In the meantime, I'm sure there will be a few frustrations and minor inconveniences for everyone. I ask all families—and any drivers who are working for our families—to abide by the current procedures. I also want to urge everyone to address our guards, faculty, and staff with courtesy and respect, which has always been a hallmark of our community. Issues can't be resolved in the heat of the moment during drop-off and pickup—it's too stressful a time, especially at the beginning of the year. Thanks for your help and cooperation with this important matter.
We've had a wonderful first full week of school. I hope you all enjoy a lovely weekend with family and friends.
Sincerely,
