Principal's Bio

Joseph Campana
High School Principal

Mr. Campana has over 30 years of experience as an educator, with teaching and leadership posts ranging from early elementary to graduate school and including all points in between. Joe began his teaching career at St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute in Buffalo, the high school from which he had graduated four years prior.

Joe has worked in a variety of school settings, both in the United States and abroad. He was a middle school English teacher in urban schools in Buffalo and New York City before moving to Montana, where he taught English at the university level for eight years. Joe also has extensive overseas experience, teaching in São Paulo, Brazil, and later in India, and serving as high school principal at a school in the Gulf Region.

Joe joined ACS first as an English teacher in 2018 and was later named the English Department Chair. He was appointed Assistant High School Principal in 2019 and was named High School Principal for the 2020-2021 school year.

Joe’s many years of teaching experience inform his leadership practice. As a teacher, Joe strives to be the sort of teacher he had cherished as a student. As High School Principal he tries to be the type of leader he most respected as a teacher. Joe draws heavily from the mentorship he received from Professor Bill McCaw during his graduate coursework in leadership at the University of Montana and from the expertise gleaned from his current coursework at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education. In addition to a Certificate in Secondary School Leadership, Joe holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from Canisius College, an MS in Education from Canisius College, and an MA in English Literature from the University of Montana.
