ACS has developed a thoughtful music curriculum that is designed to produce young musicians – both vocalists and instrumentalists - who will choose to engage in and appreciate music throughout their ACS career.

In Early Childhood music is taught each day from Nursery to KG2. In Grades 1 through 5 children study music two sessions per cycle. In these younger grades emphasis is on learning and recognizing rhythm, reading music, and practicing the fundamentals of vocal technique. In 2024, ACS launched its Recorder Program. As the program progresses, students will study the recorder in grades 2 and 3, followed by the adoption of an instrument of their choice in grades 4 and 5. As a result, each year over 100 ACS students will learn to play a new instrument. Additionally, the After School Explorers program offers Choir, as well as several other music options, throughout the year.

In the Middle School, all students engage in an arts rotation that includes music in grade 6 and have the option to choose either Band, Choir or Music Production electives in grades 7 and 8. Likewise, high school students may choose music as an elective in High School or via club activities, such as Tiny Desk, after school.

Winter and Spring Concerts

Each winter and spring ACS students of all ages perform in a musical concert showcasing their vocal and instrumental talent. We feature music of all genres performed by choirs, soloists and mixed ensembles.

Tiny Desk

Inspired by the National Public Radio (NPR) performance series in the US, ACS high school students founded their own version during the 2020-2021 school year. ACS Tiny Desk features small student ensembles performing in intimate concert settings or at special student and community events throughout the year.
