ACS has developed a thoughtful music curriculum that is designed to produce young musicians – both vocalists and instrumentalists - who will choose to engage in and appreciate music throughout their ACS career.

Music is an integral part of the learning experience at ACS. In Early Childhood, students enjoy daily music classes from Nursery through KG2. In Grades 1 to 3, they have three music sessions per cycle, increasing to four in Grades 4 and 5. Lessons focus on rhythm, reading music, and developing vocal technique.

Students in Grades 2 and 3 learn to play the recorder before choosing an instrument to study in Grades 4 and 5. As a result, more than 100 students begin learning a new instrument each year. The After School Explorers program also offers additional music activities throughout the year.

In Middle School, students in Grades 6–8 choose between band and percussion. In High School, music continues through electives and extracurricular groups such as Tiny Desk and Band.

Winter and Spring Concerts

Each winter and spring ACS students of all ages perform in a musical concert showcasing their vocal and instrumental talent. We feature music of all genres performed by choirs, soloists and mixed ensembles.

Tiny Desk

Inspired by the National Public Radio (NPR) performance series in the US, ACS high school students founded their own version during the 2020-2021 school year. ACS Tiny Desk features small student ensembles performing in intimate concert settings or at special student and community events throughout the year.
