Learning through Exploration
The Early Childhood years lay the groundwork for a lifetime of learning and well-being. Rooted in the enduring insights of the Reggio Emilia philosophy, our learning approach stretches beyond the ABCs and the 123s to include the holistic development of a child’s character, mindset and learning dispositions.
Our students grow and learn through meaningful experiences that include provocative questioning, hands-on project-based learning, and collaborative problem-solving. At the heart of it all is our belief in the uniqueness of each child's learning adventure and the vital role our teachers play as supportive facilitators and guides.

A Journey of Exploration, Meaning Making & the Acquisition of Knowledge
Early Childhood is divided into two sections: Lower Early Childhood (Lower EC) a half-day program encompassing Nursery, Kindergarten 1 and Kindergarten 2; and Upper Early Childhood (Upper EC) a full-day program spanning Grades 1 and 2. During Lower EC the emphasis is on the acquisition of essential literacy and numeracy skills coupled with the nurturing of each child’s social, intellectual and emotional development.
Beginning in Kindergarten 2 we seamlessly interweave the rigorous AERO (American Education Reaches Out) standards-based curriculum together with the Reggio Emilia philosophy. The combined approach encourages students to meet discrete developmental and academic targets within a joyful, nurturing and child-centered environment.
At all grade levels our unique pedagogical approach incorporates a sequence that begins with a children’s interest, teacher’s invitation or provocative questioning (Provocations), followed by hands-on deep investigation, and ending with a creative and collaborative project. We let students guide the process utilizing the scientific method, design thinking, and other sophisticated methods of inquiry and analysis that stretch their abilities across many disciplines. Outdoor and Nature Education, the fine arts, and community service are other essential components of our program and we take great care in devoting ample time, resources and specialized faculty to each enriching activity.
What Sets ACS Apart?
Learning Environment
Our cozy classrooms foster creativity and celebrate the joy of caring and listening to each child. Learning Centers promote collaboration and exploration, and we frequently adapt them to align with children’s interests.
A Dedicated Art Atelier
In our daily Art Atelier, we celebrate the creativity and unique perspectives of each child. Working with an artist in residence, the children embark on open-ended, process-oriented art projects using a variety of materials.
Above & Beyond Program
Through Above & Beyond, we keep children engaged and connected to the world. It's a journey where they become agents of positive change in their communities while discovering and developing their unique talents and gifts.
Outdoor Education
In addition to exploration on campus and at AUB, children frequently venture to ACS’s Deir El Qamar campus for Outdoor & Nature Education. They explore and connect with wildlife and engage in special learning experiences.
After School Explorers
Daily after-school fee-based programming is offered to students in grades 1 and 2. Activities run the gamut from arts, dance and music to sports and STEM activities such as Little Engineering and Bildits, a construction activity.
