Outdoor Education
The O
utdoor education at ACS is an extension of the school program; it offers chances for elementary students, to learn about and appreciate their environment. Outdoor Education allows students to acquire skills with which they enjoy a lifetime of creative, productive, and healthful living.
At ACS, the Elementary School firmly believes that Outdoor Education is an essential component of individual, mental, and physical development and that outdoor trips will benefit all students with never ending experiences. One of the most important components of an outdoor environment is that it is filled with first time memorable learning experiences. It merges activity with learning and emphasis on hand-on field work.
The Elementary School Outdoor Program is aimed at getting kids out of the classroom and assisting them in becoming comfortable in their natural environment. Most field trips are integrated with their classroom topics that they are studying; and that creates a unique and long lasting multi-disciplinary experience.
Through the Outdoor Education Program, ACS seeks to:
- Build student confidence through engagement in physically and socially challenging activities
- Promote class bonding, cooperative learning, and personal responsibility
- Provide students with training in lifelong, outdoor sports
- Encourage students to respect and value nature
GOING BACK TO THE ROOTS!
Away from technology, simplicity rules the outdoors; that brings clarity and focuses on how nature functions and how it affects our everyday life. The marvelous thing about outdoors is that it unites body and soul with the surrounding environment creating an interaction and a deep understanding of Mother Nature.
It introduces new sensory experiences: fresh smells, strange sounds, interesting sights and deeper feelings.
Outdoor education can enrich, vitalize, and complement all content areas of school curriculum by means of first-hand observation and direct experience out-of-doors.
