ACS welcomed 150 new students and more than 125 families, the largest group of new families in its 112 year history! Families and students met in the front of the Middle School to get their welcome packets and name tags. Their packet included a map, a schedule, a checklist and other information that would be useful to them for the orientation. Next, they went to the Gym for a greeting from the Head of Schools, Greg MacGilpin, and a short presentation about ACS and the day ahead.

Once dismissed, families either went first with representatives from their division or to the cafeteria for a ‘menu of services’.

No matter when they got to the cafeteria, they found tables set up to enable students and parents to meet key people and service departments at ACS.

They could get their parent ID cards, speak with security, meet the nurses, sign up for the lunch or bus programs and learn about the athletics programs. Any lingering admission questions or finance questions were answered by the business office staff.

The library team was there to help with technology accounts for parents and aid in the creation of log-ins. Some members of the Parent Volunteer Committee hosted a ‘Beirut and Beyond’ table with information and a quick fact sheet of what to do near ACS and in Beirut. Families were invited to take their ‘First day at ACS’ photo at the selfie photo booth, pick up a ‘We are ACS’ pin and a pennant for their walls.

Next week all parents will be attending their division open houses and there they will have the opportunity see the returning parents and the new families too.
