Hard to believe but the start of school is just a few short weeks away! While you were on vacation, visiting with family or enjoying summer camp, the physical plant staff at ACS has been preparing for your return. Over $1,000,000 of work has been done!
Work quietly started just after school ended in June with the installation of new solar panels on the roof of the Middle School building, Gym roof, and remaining roofs of the lower school and BD roof. They are part of a project that began two years ago, that was mainly funded by ASHA/USAID in collaboration with our annual fund, for the ACS 2020 Green Vision Plan.
In the BD building, the reception has been moved to accommodate a new KG Classroom and a smaller Community Lounge. Walls were changed, new windows and doors were put in as well as cupboards and classroom amenities. The print shop moved down the hall and the bookstore was rearranged.
Of course, like every year, there were repairs to facades and repainting, mainly on the East and West parts of the Gym. Advances in technology and equipment require constant upgrades to the electrical systems, $240,000 this year alone. New LED lights have been installed in the Gym and the covered basketball court. The UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) in all buildings has been replaced with up to date equipment.
This will ensure that online work, public announcements and critical systems, such as fire alarms, are working reliably even when power shuts down. The MS roof was repaired and got a new waterproofing system. The renovation of the AC/Ventilation system in the MS will make it more energy efficient. Capital furniture was replaced or added to accommodate the new space, and the Senior Lounge is waiting for the Class of 2018.
See if you can spot some of these works when you are on campus. The school year is just around the corner!
