For the 3rd year in a row, 6th grade students were given an opportunity to raise funds for the St. Jude’s Children’s Cancer Center by participating in the Letter-a-Thon.

As part of their English nonfiction unit, 6th grade students were asked to research a specific type of cancer and write an essay based on that research.

Those who wanted to participate in the fundraising activity were asked to get pledges for each word in their essay. On average, the pledges were 100 L.L. per word. This year 78 students participated raising a total of $ 6364.

Mr. Triche said: “Ms. Guitterez and I are very proud of our 6th graders for working so hard on their research/essay and for showing such enthusiasm and generosity with the fundraising activity.” The program has been such a success. In the last three years, over 210 students participated raising a total of $18,869 for St. Jude’s Children’s Cancer Center.
